Representative Nnamdi Chukwuocha
District 1
Northeast Wilmington
About Nnamdi
Nnamdi has made a life of public service. He is a social worker, an army veteran, a former city councilman, and a four-term state representative. He brings all of these backgrounds together to advocate for policies that specially meet the needs of Wilmington: education reform, criminal justice reform, senior and veteran services, and preservation of our parks and history.
He is one half the 17th Poets Laureate of Delaware, alongside his brother Al Mills. Their compassion and commitment to their work and words are deeply rooted in their efforts to utilize art as a tool to empower our children and communities.
Priorities & Accomplishments
Healthcare Access
Nnamdi has championed healthcare reform bills to make healthcare more accessible and affordable to the elderly, the disabled, and minors. This session, he led the effort to pass SB1, which required hospitals to direct their funds to preventative primary care, lowering costs for everyone.
Affordable Housing
Housing is becoming more expensive across Delaware. Nnamdi is working to expand development of affordable housing, while keeping Wilmington a desirable place to live.
Education Reform
Nnamdi is a firm believer in our public schools and that they should be the foundation to give every Delawarean a fair shot. He sits on the board of the Redding Consortium to ensure equity in our schools.
Constituent Service
It is not enough to pass the right laws. They need to be connected to the community. Nnamdi has made sure that in times of crisis, the state government responds to the city of Wilmington.
Energy and Data Centers
Data centers are threatening to raise our power bills without a fair return to us. Nnamdi has passed multiple bills to ensure data centers provide their own power, lower their priority on the grid, and grant relief during peak usage hours by utilizing battery storage.
