Ayanna Khan-Flowers
District 9
Middletown, Odessa, Townsend, Magnolia
About Ayanna
Ayanna Khan-Flowers is a resident of Middletown and servant of the MOT community. She is running for state representative in district 9 because she believes in accessible, accountable, and responsible leadership.
She has listened to the people in the district, and the message is clear: it's getting too expensive, and the things that make Delaware a great place to live are in danger. From high electricity costs to increasing property taxes to outdated infrastructure, it's clear that a change of leadership for RD09 is necessary.
She is the founder and President of the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce and lives with her husband, Staff Sergeant Jerry Flowers Jr., and two children who attend schools in the Appoquinimink school district.
Priorities
Healthcare Access
Healthcare is too expensive. We spend more on healthcare than any other country, and it still takes us months just to get a checkup scheduled. Ayanna supports measures that will make Delaware more attractive for healthcare professionals and lower healthcare costs for seniors and children.
Smart Growth
MOT has grown faster than any other area in the state. That is something to be proud of, but it is also a signal that we cannot continue uncontrolled sprawl. In order to maintain the character of our towns, keep housing affordable, and protect our infrastructure and environment, we have to implement measures alongside county council to ensure any further growth is done in a responsible manner that does not leave current residents with the short end of the stick.
Fighting Data Centers
Multiple data centers have been proposed in Delaware, none of which would benefit Delawareans more than they benefit their builders and Silicon Valley corporations. Ayanna supports legislation to block these projects wherever they are proposed. We can be for progress and technology without sacrificing our state's wellbeing.
Quality Education
Education is the best investment we can make for the future of our state. Every kid deserves a fair shot at life. Ayanna has encouraged higher education and workforce training through the Black Chamber of Commerce and wants to bring practical learning like this to Delaware's public schools.
Economic Opportunity for Everyone
Ayanna has made a career out of supporting small businesses and entrepreneurship. With so many people moving to Delaware, we need to diversify our economy in a way that provides economic opportunity for young people leaving school and older people looking to re-enter the workforce or change their career path.
